Rut Blees Luxemburg
Rut Blees Luxemburg was born in Germany but now lives and works in London. Her photographs are very much a series of urban adventures – most often nocturnal – with evocative titles:
A Modern Project, Liebeslied, My Nightmares, Piccadilly’s Peccadillos …. They highlight the unexpected detail and offer another perspective, a new vision of reality. Or maybe it is simply that our own view changes on seeing them? Her work was shown at the Pompidou Centre and at Tate Modern. She is represented in London by Union Gallery and in Paris by Dominique Fiat.
Earliest memories
Putting on the boots meant to go outside, into the garden, the vineyards. I remember it as an uncomfortable procedure to put my feet into the tight boots and fuss about tying up the laces … holding me up from being outside, where the others were already waiting …
First feelings
… and somehow that childhood anxiety of ‘not getting quick enough inside the boots’ is still in tension today with the desire to remain inside or the will to go outside.
Last wishes
The future will be hand-made boots which will shimmer in the dark like glow-worms and will be so precious that they are passed on to the next generation, who will customize them to fit …
