Glasses [gla:siz], noun
Intended to protect and/ or correct the eye since 1280, eyeglasses, sunglasses, glasses for swimming, diving, skiing or glacier-climbing (...) all consist of a pair of lenses set in a frame. They rest on the nose and are secured around the ears by side-pieces. But who can say today whether they are used to see, or be seen?
