David Lynch
Famous for experimenting with confusion and troubling the senses, David Lynch has developed a cinematographic writing style that defies categorisation. Coming to notice with Elephant Man in 1980, he was awarded the palme d’or at Cannes for Sailor and Lula – Wild at Heart, and in 1992 created the television series Twin Peaks, which won him many fans all over the world. A specialist of bizarre cinema, he invents his own narrative structure, playing around with time scales and delighting in exposing the dark aspect hidden behind everything. In Mulholland Drive (2001) or Inland Empire (2007), both Hollywood glamour and the world of cinema themselves are portrayed as nightmarish visions. Undisputed master of the seventh art and legendary for many things, David Lynch is also a photographer, painter and musician. An exhibition at the Cartier Foundation in 2007 further displayed his talents as an artist and his unique and complex universe. His lithographic works can be seen in Paris at item editions.
