Philippe Favier
Philippe Favier has golden fingers and a silver pencil. With a variety of mediums he creates poetic worlds and favours intimacy in his work. He has had striking exhibitions at the Musée National d'Art Moderne, the Venice Biennale, the Jeu de Paume gallery or at the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Lyon for a sixteen month journey that was both geographic and artistic.
First memories
I was fascinated by the cobbler in my village. To him a hide adapts itself to all manner of feet, and all wounds, he was all-encompassing. The bag uses this same material – this is important, it renders it indispensable.
First feelings
I detest travelling so I don’t have an ideal bag, but I like flea market bags, worn and with a patina, that allow me to travel in my head thanks to the smell they carry, or the feel of them. I couldn’t care less about "fashion label bags" although the white bag made by Hermès is magnificent but far too sophisticated for me.
Final desires
Artisans will only be able to get by through becoming in some way elitist.
