For financiers, time is money……
but for artists, it’s gold.
At ICONOfly it’s time to celebrate the watch, not just as a timepiece, but as a thing of timeless beauty in itself. In the same way a watch is much more than just a functional tool to ration our time, or even just a beautiful piece of jewellery, but an almost sacred object, measuring the passage of our days, and of our lives…… from the wrist.
On station platforms,
in airports and in town squares,
time stands still when lovers kiss beneath the clock.
Just as time can stand still
when we lose ourselves in a wondrous piece of music, or poetry,
or are touched fleetingly by beauty in any way.
Perhaps a delightful taste, or a momentary whiff of a delicious perfume.
Ephemeral, to be savoured for the moment… and then gone… remembered but never recaptured. In this issue - inspired by the watch - ICONOfly presents exclusively commissioned pieces by the poet Shan Sa, the artist Pascal Colrat, by the parfumier Christine Nagel, the conceptual artist Jochen Gerz, and by musician Doctor L. We’ve also asked the watchmakers themselves to tell their story. Not just of dismantling and repairing movements but the whole story from the mechanism to the legend… evoking the essential timelessness of the wristwatch.
Read on. Savour the moment. And let time stand still…
with ICONOfly.
