THE MALTE TOURBILLON
Vacheron Constantin, the oldest watch manufacture in the world, has just brought out a powerful timepiece with great character. This Malte tourbillon is masterpiece of intricacy whose baptismal name recalls a piece of the movement and which is also the emblem of the house. An example of an ancestral savoir-faire, it brings together a harmonious balance of aesthetics and techno- logical sophistication.
Invented in 1795, the tourbillon was a brilliant solution to the negative effects of the Earth’s gravity. The mechanism consists of a MOBILE CAGE, containing all the parts that regulate the movement. THE BALANCE WHEEL, the SPIRAL and the ESCAPEMENT. Turning on itself, the tourbillon submits the parts that regulate the watch to a regular 360°rotation, thus neu- tralising the effects of gravity on the watch’s system.
